The Drop Top

I was very excited when this came through the door, free with my first issue of Simply Sewing magazine subscription. I thought it was right up my alley, as far as loose fitting comfy tops go and I was eager to give it a try! I decided on the top rather than the dress because I usually go for a jeans and top combo despite loving dresses and having made lots of them!

I got this jersey fabric from Barry's (no surprise there then...) for £4.95 pm and was attracted by the colour immediately - it's just so edible! Because this top can't be cut on the fold it takes two metres but I do have a little left over, just enough to make the babe some leggings!

I quickly cut the fabric out one evening and the next night I set to putting it together. It was quick and easy; the fiddliest bit being the neck band. The first time I did this I wasn't happy and ended up unpicking it; I think I might have overstretched the fabric. My second attempt was better. The top hangs funny because of the one sided drape so it pulls along the top line, both front and back. I think it's something I'll just have to get used to.

I quite like the finished top. The neckline could be better but I'm not sure I'm going to manage that so I'l leave it as is. And the sleeves are slightly different lengths but since I usually pull them up I'm not bothered about that.

Its unusual. And I like unusual!
